Those interested in Brazil and revolution should gain strong background by
visiting these websites:

a.. Os Sertões de Euclides da Cunha (obra completa):
http://www.cce.ufsc.br/~nupill/literatura/sertoes.html
b.. História de Canudos http://www.portfolium.com.br/artigo.htm
c.. Mapa de Canudos http://www.portfolium.com.br/mapa.htm
d.. Canudos - 100 anos (Jornal Estado de São
Paulo)http://www.estado.com.br/edicao/especial/canudos/can055.html

They are in Portuguese, all of them are related to the story of Antônio
Conselheiro and the communist-religious rebellion in the Brazilian North East
known as the Canudos rebellion. It was wonderfully depicted by a journalist who
worked on the enemy side, Euclides da Cunha. But Da Cunha made a very honest,
thus very positive in the end, report of the rebels.

Mario Vargas Llosa's _War of the end of the world_ can also be read with
profit. Although a novel, it is extremely true to history and is marvelously
well written even though Vargas Llosa is a reactionary of the worst kind.
