Just for a grim smile from you, this Jewish joke from Buenos Aires: Yankl and Shloyme, two very young little boys, became the strongest support for each other when inmates at the Auschwitz death camp.
1945, the Allies set Auschwitz prisoners free. Yankl manages to get into the United States, and goes to live with some family of his, Shloyme same but into Argentina. Yankl's family in the US gives him the best upbringing, he ends with a Summa Cum Laude in Harvard as economist, enters the IMF staff and reaches the highest responsiblity posts. He escalates within the structure of the institution, receives specialized education in London and New York, and begins to staff missions sent by the IMF the world over. Shloyme's family in Argentina gives him the best upbringing and send him to study Business Administration, put him at the head of the family's factory, and he makes a great carreer in business. However, the 1976 import burst puts the plant out of competition, Shloyme tries to save the little he can save of what his family gave him, but ends up bankrupt and takes a job as a taxi driver. Later on, he's attacked by a gang of burglars and plunges into a villa miseria (shantytown) in the La Matanza neighborhood of Buenos Aires, very near the freeway that brings travelers from the Airport to the core of the city. One day, Yankl is told to visit Argentina during a mission. While he's entering town, a road block stops his u$s 300,000 limo, and the security staff get off the car to disperse the multitude. Suddenly, Yankl realizes that among the people in the road block is his old friend Shloyme. He gets off the car himself, to the horror of the security gards, and faces Shloyme. "Shloyme, is it you?" "Yeah, and who're you, motherfucking IMF bastard?" "Can't you remember? I am Yankl, from Auschwitz" "Yankl? Auschwitz", mutters Shloyme, and stares at Yankl's face. Then he realizes that yes, this is Yankl. He embraces him, bursts in tears, and, sobbing, tells him: "Ah, Auschwitz! Those were the good days, Yankl!"
