one sure sign things are not so good for the oil
managers in venezuela, NPR reported today that they were desperate'...in a news
report that tried to put the best face on the "strike" after a
month...
what a nice way to begin the new
year...

Running Close to Normal without Bosses
Hola amigos. Looks like the situation may be improving for
Chavez: a sympathetic, newly elected leftist government in Brazil has sent a
tanker full of oil to Venezuela. Combined with other shipments, Caracas is
being supplied, and negotiations brokered by OAS secretary-general Gaviria (a
Brazilian)have started. He predicted positive results from meetings scheduled
next week.
La Jornada, a Mexican daily, commented that the crisis "is
able to" enter a second phase. The paper's report clearly indicates that the
"strike" has failed in its main objective of ousting Chavez, and underscores
earlier claims by Narco News that it has failed to shut down commercial
activity, though the oil sector is still below normal operations despite
military take over.
Of special interest is La Jornada's statement that
"transnational corporations" have ordered a stoppage of oil shipments into or
out of Venezuela and that yesterday, a gathering of oil executives affirmed
their determination to maintain their "strike" until Chavez is ousted.
La Jornada observes that the anti-government forces have an
"incomparable propaganda apparatus" yet are unable to achieve their objective.
