AFP and Reuters. 8 February 2003. 31 dead in Bogota nightclub bombing,
vice president blames FARC rebels.

BOGOTA -- Colombia and the United States blamed Marxist rebels on
Saturday for a car bomb that laid waste to a high-society club, killing
at least 31 people and injuring about 160 in Bogota's worst bombing in a
decade.

"I have absolutely no doubt it was the FARC," Colombian Vice President
Francisco Santos told reporters.

The Club Nogal, a luxurious complex in a wealthy part of the Andean
capital complete with restaurants, a hotel and golf driving range, has
been a favorite playground for government ministers.

But its clientele is mainly wealthy businessmen and their families. The
U.S. ambassador's residence is just nearby.

On its English-language Web site (www.clubelnogal.com), the club, which
costs thousands of dollars to join, boasts of offering "the privilege of
having it all."
