Comrades,
as much as it was to be expected and as much as it is welcome that the 'CPs'
take part in the international movement against the upcoming Iraq war the
declaration of the 'Communist' and Workers Parties unfortunately but again as
could be expected has no communist character at all. It is a declaration of
bourgeois pacifism, spreading illusions in the UN, an institution controlled by
the imperialist powers, and does not even reject the official aim of the UN -
albeit formulated by the security council alone - to disarm Iraq while not only
the USA, GB, France, Russia etc. but also Israel are never called upon by the UN
to get rid of its WMD. The statement also but once (at the very end) mentions
the working class. However it doesn't mention the working class as a class,
which under its own independent political leadership must lead the broad
antiwar-movement if imperialist wars should be stopped. The declaration deals
much with international treaties and the constitutions of bourgeois states and
with the stability of a world constantly wrecked by capitalist exploitation and
oppression. It does not adress the fact that it is the working class all over
the world - the USA included - which will pay for this and future imperialist
wars. It only mentions the working class (not using the term, by the way) as one
force of equal importance as parliaments, artists, intellectuals, politicians
and diplomats.
Best, A.Holberg
