Even with a spelling error in the name (in LensFun, Exiv2 or > ExifTool) it is possible to find the right lens I feels like an ugly hack for circumventing other problems. The actual problem is that exiv2 is often not able to provide the proper lens name, either because its database is not complete, or because the EXIF data is ambiguous. Besides, it is already possible to locally add lens entries with a lens model name like "(123)".
