IRC is just not what people seem to think of first these days. most channels have too few or too many people active. not to mention too many channels and networks. groups/forums are better sometimes for timeshifting. it is the best for capturing that first time user who will sometimes temper a forum post and forget or neglect to mention the highlights or lowlights of their experience. lifeblood to any project.
