My impression was that SWIG is used more typically for generating Python API bindings for C programs, rather than converting C programs to Python?
I'm currently using the GDAL/OGR python bindings, which annoyingly seg. fault when you delete the last reference to one of the objects, but still very useful. I think they're SWIG generated.
