I viewed the outline in vim and displayed it as HEX content: 

0000000: 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000  ................
0000010: 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000  ................
...
008ff90: 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000  ................
008ffa0: 0000 0000 0000 0000 0d0a                 ..........

It looks like something 'corrupted' the outline. - What is absolutely 
strange is that the outline was properly closed the morning before!

Not knowing what did & how that happened leaves me *very* unhappy ...
