In the US, I see it called a "back-tick".  It seems to be the same as the grave 
accent. It is normally on the far left of the 2nd row from the top, and is 
the unshifted character..  That is the same row that contains the numbers 0 
- 9.  The only row above it contains the various function keys (F1, F2, 
...).   The ASCII code number is 96.
