While investigating an unrelated problem, I happened to notice a
sequence of errors from Comcast in today's log:
07/04 06:57:36 [106] - smtp send: looking up domain: comcast.net
07/04 06:57:36 [106] - smtp send: opening connection: gateway-
s.comcast.net.
07/04 06:57:47 [106] - smtp send: ERROR!! 550 Comcast does not
support the direct connection to its mail servers from residential
IPs. Your mail should be sent to comcast.net users through your ISP.
Please contact your ISP or mail administrator for more
I've been sending messages via LetterRip's built-in SMTP server for
years. It appears that starting sometime yesterday, Comcast became
unhappy with LetterRip's server at my ADSL IP address.
I changed LetterRip to use my ISP's server. Messages are going out
fine.
But LetterRip is reporting ...
message from <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> to list <name> rejected -
received from mailer daemon
I'm concerned bounce processing has been affected. Time will tell.
