This is a wrong interpretation IMHO. My reading of the FHS indicates
/var/cache/locate would be a saner location.
Thanks Greg, I've reverted the commit for now. I'll reopen the bug and
let other folks comment too. If you don't mind, I'll paste your
comments in the bug report so as everything's in one place.
