Comment (by [EMAIL PROTECTED]):

Note that there are tests in the testsuite/ directory, but in order to
evaluate which tests to execute,it tries to read /proc/config.gz, which
doesn't exist in the chroot environment. Even if it did, it would be the
host's version of that file so wouldn't be particularly reliable of the
features to test for. Now, how best to explain this in the book?
Obviously 'This package does not come with a testsuite' isn't accurate any
 longer.

I suggest the following text: 'This package comes with a testsuite, but
due to assumptions it makes, it is not possible to reliably run these
tests from within the chroot environment. If you wish to run these tests
after booting into your new LFS system, ensure you selected
/proc/config.gz support into your kernel then run 'make alltests' from the
 testsuite/ subdirectory.'

 Other suggestions welcome, of course.
