they SHOULD do EXACTLY the same. i finished chapter 6 with LC_ALL and LANGUAGE unset, LANG=de_CH.UTF-8 as you proposed. i got NO warnings or errors at all. i now restarted again to another partition with LANG and LANGUAGE unsed but LC_ALL=de_CH.UTF-8 and each invocation of a subshell yells a warning: setlocale: LC_ALL: cannot change locale (de_CH.UTF-8): No such file or directory.
