Systemd will survive in linux simply because RedHat is behind it. Look how
ingrained into linux it has become.

The question I am looking at/or asking is after systemd has become the one and
only init system for linux and other open source packages move to it, how
much trouble will other systems using those same packages have?

Systemd is not good for open source because it is linux only.
