Oh yes look at the initscript of the latest init scripts of openldap.
It expects the pid-file to be in /srv/ldap/run. The newest initscript
still does (20050313). I set the parameter pid-file in the slapd.conf to match 
this. 
I thought it was a good idea.

But I see that's not the proper place for it. I'll post it at blfs-dev
