Care to explain the basis on which you're forming that opinion for those of us paupers not able to afford such exotic hardware? :)
I'd imagine it's simply due to comaptibility (either to some legacy software, or to some Unix/Linux standard). As we're compiling from source, I'd imagine the former isn't too much of a consideration, which simply leaves things like the SUSV3, FHS and LSB to be considered.
