Yes. As mentioned in the original plfs hint the reason for using the included regex was that the old grep-2.5.1 would fail 1 test when using the Glibc regex of the day. That was, um, "fixed" in grep-2.5.1a. Of course, the current Glibc regex is reputed to be much better and less buggier than earlier incarnations. Not only that, using the Glibc regex results in a smaller grep binary :-) Thanks for bringing this up.
