Ahh...

I can see your point. However, my personal preference is that
for packages that install to a personalized location, such as
packages installed in /opt/whatever, I like everything self
included in the personalized hierarchy (except for maybe stuff
that goes in /etc).

However, that is just my preference. And the more I think
about it, the more I lean to /usr/share/doc for docs, so could
easily be persuaded to put docs there.

As far as /usr/X11R6, there are *so* many packages out there
that expect X to be there that BLFS would have to create a
symlink to avoid breakages. That being the case what advantage
is there in giving users an opportunity to set $PREFIX?
