I really like this option. The question is: are we trying to be
consistant or are we trying to educate through diversity? I wouldn't
change them all (especially chapter 5 where we probably shouldn't assume
bash 3) but it would be nice to throw one in there somewhere where there
is already a command that has an explanatory blurb. Then we can explain
it as well.
I /hope/ we're trying to educate through diversity. I agree we
shouldn't assume bash 3 in chapter 5, so I think this place is probably
where it belongs - I'd be inclined to just throw it in here without
further explanation, for all three sets of man directories (to give some
consistency). I can't think of anywhere else in chapter 6 or later that
we do this sort of thing.
