It's in fact very strange that you couldn't render foreign spam in your old LFS. This might be either due to LANG=C (instead of en_US) or due to fonts with insufficient Unicode coverage.

Now I've got to learn Russian, so I can see what I'm missing ;-)
You missed nothing. They missed your old car (working or not, i.e. they want to buy it for spare parts).
