No, I didn't ignore it. I saw that you said "the rules are not that
different". At which point I was left scratching my head as to why you
are not prepared to simply drop the rules that are in CLFS that
duplicate what is in LFS rather than create all this work for yourself.

Regards,

Matt.

The one phrase I haven't been able to grasp is why either side would
expect the other to simply *drop* what they've put their efforts into.
*Both* sets work and neither are all that different, based on
everyone's statements. _Compromise_ doesn't mean one side drops
everything and uses the other. I'm using Matt's email here only as an
example of what's been said by both sides at one point because it's
the most recent example I've seen.

As a response to your question, Matt, I'll pose a question to you,
which you can use your own reaction as your answer. -- Why don't you
drop the parts of yours that duplicate what's in the other rather than
asking them to do so with theirs? --

As for the proposal you made before, it is a great plan, and may well
be the route the two who ended up with the task of unifying decide to
take, but it will likely result in a blend of the two base sets,
rather than simply dropping one of them.

I actually wrote a rather long response to one of these threads
recently to the same effect as this, but ended up blocked for some
reason I've not taken the energy to sort out.

Both groups made choices that lead up to this, and at this point, I
can't see either of the groups making choices that will unify it
except the choice of stepping down in favor of a neutral party, which
is already in the process of being ironed out.

Feel free to ignore me if you wish, but as far as I've seen, the
wisest statement on this to this point is this (by Jim Gifford): "Let
us all step out of the picture and let Dan and Alex do what they need
to."
