I'm pleased to announce the release of LFS Version 7.0. This release includes numerous changes to LFS-6.8 (including updates to Linux-3.1, GCC-4.6.1, Glibc-2.14.1) and security fixes. It also includes editorial work on the explanatory material throughout the book, improving both the clarity and accuracy of the text.
A somewhat major change was made in this version of the book by adding a new top level directory, /run. This directory has a tmpfs mounted and is used by programs like udev to store run time information. The directories /var/run and /var/lock are also linked to this directory. The bootscripts have been updated to accomodate this change. The bootscripts have also been modified to place supporting scripts in /lib/boot. Another significant change is the addition of an md5sums file allowing users to check the integrity of all downloaded packages. You can read the book online[0], or download[1] to read locally. Please direct any comments about this release to the LFS development team at lfs-dev@linuxfromscratch.org. Please note that registration for the lfs-dev mailing list is required to avoid junk email.
