you understand the security risks, then don't let me stop you.

 Most sysadmins seem to complain of overwork, and maintaining
self-built systems is certainly not a low-work task.

 For running your own systems when it isn't a job, the tradeoffs are
very different.

 Of course, there *may* be thousands of people running production
systems on LFS and treating the lists as read-only, in which case
'your distros, your rules'.
