Yes, of course - I'd forgotten that shadow provides it.
I changed my script so that at the end of chapter 5 it compiles shadow and then
instead of make install, it does:
cp src/su /tools/bin/
I compiled shadow after xz in chapter 5 and it configures with ./configure
--prefix=/tools and make runs with no errors.
I'll run the script from the beginning and see if it works now.
