Hi,

I've noticed some discussions on the lfs-dev mailing lists while lurking
through the archives. I want to give input on some of the proposed things,
but I ain't subscribed to the list, so I have nothing to reply to.

I'll reply at everything in this mail. You are free to forward it to the
list.

Re: [lfs-dev] LFS archive files

I can't give input to all the listed files, but I can do for the
following ones:

/usr/lib/libncurses++w.a should be broken symlink, as all the static libs
from ncurses have been removed.

/usr/lib/libstdc++.a, /usr/lib/libc.a and /usr/lib/libg.a should remain.

libg.a doesn't have a shared equivalent that I'm aware of, and the other
two should be there in order to keep gcc/g++ -static working.

Also, libm, libdl and libpthread are good candidates for keeping ... but
then again it doesn't make much sense to use libdl and statically link
things.

Re: [lfs-dev] Stripping

I'm okay with your newly proposed instructions. I have nothing else to add there.

Re: [lfs-dev] Building LFS in Stages

This seems like a nice idea, too. I do agree that some users skip introduction
parts, and that the proposed topic should be in the book.

However, to keep things siple, I propose you add the page in whatever chapter
you see fit (without worrying if someone would skip it), but as a precaution,
link to the page from "5.3. General Compilation Instructions", as the people
are more likely to read that page if they do skip the rest (which is probably
why host system requirements are mentioned there, too).

Just my two cents.

Cheers.
