I won't comment on most of this, because I've used almost exclusively LFS and derivatives for probably 15 years or more. > > 4. Unfortunately, the difficulty of finding a decent config varies greatly between different machines. Old-school machines using a BIOS instead of UEFI are usually quite easy (lspci to determine what hardware and, on a distro kernel, which modules). Unfortunately, identifying the CONFIG_ options for those modules can be quite hard. And identifying the right modules for wifi can be an iterative process. On UEFI systems things get harder. For the laptop where I'm writing this my kernel config still has far too many modules because I got it to a "good enough" position and so far I lack the enthusiasm to try to slim it down a bit more. Things were simpler in the old days! ĸen -- The politics of wizardry were either very simple, and resolved by someone ceasing to breathe, or as complex as one ball of yarn in a room with three bright-eyed little kittens. - Unseen Academicals -- http://lists.linuxfromscratch.org/listinfo/lfs-dev FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/faq/ Unsubscribe: See the above information page
