a) Please don't top-post - see the FAQ for details
b) it's a very good possibility that this might be causing problems - check /dev/null, make sure it's a device node, not an actual file, and that it has mode 777 perms.

I apologize for the top-posting.
Darn thing still wont boot. Permissions on /dev/null are 777 (they were 666). It is a character file.
Just to make sure, I deleted it and ran the following command tor recreate it
mknod -m 777 $LFS/dev/null c 1 3
I'm running out of ideas, I'm almost contemplating starting Chapter 6 all over again
