I recently received a new DELL Precision 370 with a Intel 82801RF/FRW
STAT controller (rev 03). I built lfs using a 2.6.10 kernel initially
but the ata_piix kernel module wouldn't recognize that there were drives
attached to the SATA controller. After a bit of reading, I found that
this new rev on the controller needs an update that was added to the
2.6.11.x kernels. After updating my kernel to 2.6.12.3 the controller
worked wonderfully. After I've installed everything and boot the
system, grub starts complaining.

First off, grub only sees one of the 2 drives installed on the
controller. Secondly, grub only sees 3 of the 5 partitions on the
drive. When grub boots, it hangs the box solid at the "GRUB" prompt.

I tried booting from a grub floppy and that works great, until I try to
do any of the grub commands that actually access the drive (ie: find,
set, boot.. etc), then grub hangs the box.

I suspect the issue is essentially, grub does not know how to
communicate with this revision of the 82801FR SATA controller.

Has anyone encountered this problem before and if so, was a solution
found?

Thanks in advance.
