This will not work. I cannot compile the glibc. So i cannot follow the book. I

We can't help with what we don't know. Last year I saw a lot of random breakage in glibc with CVS versions, but our current toolchain versions seem to work except (possibly) on obscure architectures.

Our build method is fairly robust, provided you can build binutils and gcc linked against your current glibc, the new glibc should be OK. Oh, and provided you are running a sensible kernel.
