Technically you don't need a DHCP client, you can use the kernel autoconfiguration to setup your network working, just add ip=dhcp. I use it all the time.

And IIRC, technically, we can use bash to download software. I'm sure Jim recalls seeing something about that... circa... 2002 or 2003? We still have archives?
