Ch5 is "supposed" to divorce itself from the host, but there are some things that remain. I would recommend that you go ahead and start again. Keep the same host distro. I personally like the LFS LiveCD and a "host". That way you can install onto a machine without having to mess with all the extra partitions. Just set it up the way you want.
