Oh, sorry.  That's done with:

xmllint --nonet --noent --xinclude --postvalid \
      -o $(RENDERTMP)/lfs-full.xml index.xml

./aux-file-data.sh $(RENDERTMP)/lfs-full.xml

That's from the Makefile.  Try removing -q from the fop instruction. 
You can also try adding -d (debug switch).
