Following another thread on the list I searched a little about when the nodes are created and found
https://lwn.net/Articles/330985/ where it states that after the rootfs is mounted by the kernel, the populated tmpfs is mounted at /dev. The article is not new, so at least this was the initial design. Then reading the book on http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/view/systemd/chapter07/udev.html in section 7.3.2.2. Device Node Creation first paragraph, I think implies that the nodes are created after the tmpfs is mounted on /dev Could someone please point me to some source that could clear things up?
