Can someone please clarify for me the differences here?
/etc/modules-load.d
/etc/modprobe.d
and the file:
/etc/sysconfig/modules
All these various module dirs are confusing.

The only one in the SysV version of LFS is /etc/sysconfig/modules. In Section 7.2.2 it says:

"modules

Loads kernel modules listed in /etc/sysconfig/modules, using arguments that are also given there
"

The comments in the file explain the usage. You could also read the /etc/init.d/modules script to see what it is doing. Honestly, I've never had to load a module via a script or manually in the last 10 years or so. The kernel now seems to know how to do it.

I do not have /etc/modules-load.d or /etc/modprobe.d. They are, perhaps from systemd or perhaps you are looking at another distro.
