Thanks, I have tested lftp on it. lftp will do two thnigs:
1. try to connect to original IP with specified port
2. if connection fails, try active mode (PORT).

In this case connection to original IP should work.

I meant application level gateway by 'properly set environment'. In case
it is absent applications will see the mix of addresses, indeed.
