While this function is used from libavformat, no extra ABI
fallback is kept since the ABI hasn't been frozen after the last

Maybe still bump minor or micro to mark the internal API change.
The versions are mainly for identifying the API version externally, so
there's IMO not much point in that, and we tend not to bump the API
version at all while in the post-major-bump instability period.
