Errm, you asked me what the result with vlc would be. I would not have come up 
with it. It's not a vlc problem as far as I'm concerned, but it seems to me 
that some-bit-of-underlying-software-that-might-be-libav-or-maybe-something-
else misbehaves with these discs and I asked whether this is a known 
problem/limitation and/or if someone has any advice or workaround.

Apparently this is not the case and you do not seem to consider it a bug in 
libav or whatever else is involved.
