when you use the standard driver 'ftdi_sio', 'udev' will automatically create symlinks below /dev/serial/; in the directory /dev/serial/by-path/ you'll find symlinks named after the topology ("where is the device plugged in"), and in /dev/serial/by-id/ you'll find symlinks named after the product name and serial number ("which device is it").
