Or just install a newer GCC, if you need something newer than their
LTS will provide you.  Ubuntu 13.04 (and I think the older LTS
versions) has a PPA available with a few different gcc major versions,
packaged as /usr/bin/name-versionnum to make it easy to switch between
them:

Not super officially supported but the gcc-4.7 and 4.8 versions from
there are working well for me.
