Thanks.  I certainly don't see anything suspicious here...  We may get
slightly more useful information if you run "make V=1" and check the
output of that, but I sort of doubt it.

Is it possible, like Roy suggested, that you had an old build
directory laying around and we're seeing a conflict between netcdf
4.2.1.1 and 4.3.0?

Speaking of PETSc, is there any particular reason you are using
petsc-2.3.1-p19?  It is incredibly old (2006) in software time, and I
wouldn't be at all surprised if some backwards-incompatible stuff has
shown up in libmesh in the last few years.  Unless there is a specific
reason you are stuck on such an old version, I'd recommend upgrading.
