Executive Summary:
I know we're all over the globe and perhaps this isn't the first event
of this nature. If you've participated in an "open music" festival
I'd love to hear how things went for you. Anyway, here in Madison,
Wisconsin, USA we're planning our first open music festival. Tom Ray,
lead singer of Lorenzo's Music
(http://alpha.dev.libre.fm/artist/Lorenzo%27s+Music), is the lead on
the project.

Details:
You can get more info at http://identi.ca/group/ommad and
http://openmusicmadison.tiddlyspot.com/. I'm planning to make a
Google Group as soon as Tom and I agree upon a name for it. Even
though the page has been up 9+ months, we are just now really getting
started. We are aiming for a November or December date. We do have a
***tentative*** venue: http://madisonfrequency.com/

The format of the show has yet to be determined, but I'm pretty
certain that one of the stipulations of the event will be that the
live recording of the show will be BY-SA. We may end up allowing
bands that do not typically record with a CC license (free or not)
participate, to allow them to experiment with a different licensing
framework and to hear successes of other free artists. Lorenzo's
Music has sold more albums since going CC (they were -NC for a while,
but are now a totally free license).

What You Can Do:
We are by no means limiting this to local artists, but I also have no
idea what sort of money we plan to bring in. It may be nothing, where
the bands donate their time and the venue gets alcohol sales. I'd
assume bands would be able to sell merch. So, if you're local, or
pseudo-local and are in a band, let us know and we'll sign you up. If
you know people, let them know and have them contact me if interested.
If someone non-local (Boston, London, Madrid, where evs) is planning
on doing a midwest tour (Chicago area) and wants to stop by I'm sure
we could arrange a place to stay. Last but not least, you can come!
Again, we'd love for people to come from far off for the event. We
don't have any sort of budget at the moment, but just like bands, if
you want to come as an audience member, I'm sure we can find you a
place to stay for the night (subject to limited availability of
course).
