Hi, Laptops are interesting because there are identifiable models (normally) with plenty of "exotic" hardware. http://udu.wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopMission [en] the goal http://udu.wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopHardwareSupport [en] the hardware categories
That could be a good way to identify which existing tools are used for diagostic on debian (or ubuntu in this case). By being independant of distribution, we can benefit all distributions that have those kind of initiatives and adapt common diag tools for all distributions. Seems strange to me though that the ubuntu wiki does not (yet) suggest to put feedback on http://tuxmobil.org If we were ready with a "basic" interface to our proposed database, that would enable to gather some data. That would enable us to validate the database schema on real data and see what is missing. see http://udu.wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareDatabaseRoadmap?highlight=%28HardwareCertification%29 and http://udu.wiki.ubuntu.com/HwdbMaloneIntegration?highlight=%28HardwareCertification%29 It seems work has begun with " More than 20,000 datasets in < 30 days (currently 755 submissions a day on average)" I've not yet found where they have put all this data. If you find how it currently works, it can give us new ideas too (that can be implemented later on). BTW, have you checked that you have access to ftp.tuxfamily.org for demo.librehwdb.tuxfamily.org webspace (+ phpMyAdmin to MySQL database ?). @++ Ben'. aka baud123
