It is easy to reproduce: Create a form on Linux, export as PDF, open it using (for example) Acrobat Reader on Windows. You get a message about missing fonts (LiberationSans in my case). The static text shows ok, but the form fields only show placeholder chars when filled. Choosing to embed standard fonts while exporting does not help.
