Summary: ruler enhancements - just one example
Product: LibreOffice

Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: Writer

hi,
The ruler is a very important tool when it comes to layout or any sort.
What we have so far is good but could be enhanced.
The goal is to get a measurement easily of any element in the page.
Just take a line.
Where is it in the page?
Let's check its vertical position.
If you have a 16:9 monitor, the vertical ruler can be way-way away from the
document.
Even on a narrow monitor the situation is basically the same.
So what do you do?
Exit the full screen or stretch to screen mod by licking the "squares" icon at
the right top corner between the _ and the |X|
Now you can get the ruler close enough to the document area...
STILL you may find yourself using a physical ruler and your hands :)
ONE SUGGESTION:
When we hover the mouse cursor over the ruler, a think green line could appear,
which would span over the document...
THUS any line's vertical position could be established EASILY.
The very same thing could be done with horizontal position and the horizontal
ruler.
Of course, there could be further developments. BUt for a good beginning this
would be FABULOUS already.
