Bug ID: 164862
Summary: Most file association icons are generic instead of
application-specific
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 24.8.4.2 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Installation
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
Most of the LibreOffice file association icons are generic instead of
application-specific. For example, the file icons for .ods files are generic
white LibreOffice icons instead of the green LibreOffice Calc icons.
This is due to the LibreOffice installer setting most OS actions (such as Open
and New), perhaps erroneously, to launch "soffice.exe" instead of the actual
specific LibreOffice application, such as "scalc.exe" (omitting paths here for
clarity). This is compounded by the LibreOffice installer not setting the file
icons for most LibreOffice file types, nor their individual OS actions.
This is not the case for every LibreOffice file type association, but for the
most common and important ones. For example, LibreOffice sets the icon
correctly for .xlsx files. For these files, LibreOffice correctly sets all
actions to launch "scalc.exe", so the icons are picked up by the OS correctly.
Please note that even enabling the following option does not fix this bug:
Tools > Options > General > Perform check for default file associations on
start-up
This bug may be a fairly recent regression, as I thought this bug was not
present in the past. If it is a regression, I estimate one of the last 3
official releases caused the bug.
Please note that when we install or upgrade LibreOffice, we select the Custom
install option, and instruct the installer to set all file associations,
including for Visio (which oddly is still not a default, even when Visio is not
installed).
Tested on Windows 11 24H2 with LibreOffice 24.8.4.2 (X86_64).
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install LibreOffice, enabling the options to set all file type associations,
including Visio
2. Launch a file manager
3. Notice that most of the important LibreOffice file type associations are
generic white on white
Actual Results:
Most of the important LibreOffice file type associations are generic white on
white.
Expected Results:
LibreOffice file type associations to have app-specific icons.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: Yes
