It looks like in Word 2016, it is the same (at least visually). In Word,
selecting the paragraph character, and marking it "hidden", puts w:vanish
element to its w:pPr/w:rPr. Inserting a "style separator" adds *two* elements
there: w:vanish and w:specVanish.

And I believe, that the fix here - 56588663a0fddc005c12afaa7d3f8874d036875f -
conflicts with 2bcfb7231b5ca74f02274cfb74ca8463f78905d6, instead of improving
the latter in rendering the rest of the "joined paragraph" using the second
paragraph's properties.
