no , the steps to reproduce the problem are simpler than that :

the support evidence contains spreadsheet 01_SampleFileSavedWithGoodVersion.xls

it was last saved at v24.x with colourful appearance as shown
in picture file 02_OriginalAppearance.JPG

when i open it in v25.2.0.3 - without any user-interaction 
the cell background colours are 
changed - most of them lost - as shown in picture file 03_NewAppearance.JPG

this is clearly case-specific - doesn't happen to all spreadsheets.

I will try it with the dev version and report back.
