Bug ID: 168030
Summary: Writer (Linux) resets to first page when entering
"Read Only" review mode after saving, if used over a
network share (SMB, NFS)
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 25.2.5.2 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
When using Writer (25.2.5.2) on Linux over a network share like SMB or NFS,
switching to "Read Only" mode (Ctrl+Shift+M) to safely review my document will
reset me back to the first page, if I saved at any time during the current
session. This makes me lose my spot and is very frustrating because I switch
modes often when reviewing my documents.
I can always reproduce this on different Linux systems with different SMB and
NFS shares. It does not matter that my user has full ownership and permissions
of the folder and file. (My user and group is the owner of the file, folder,
and entire share. The permissions are 777 for everything.)
This does *not* happen with documents that are on a *local* drive or *USB*
drive.
This *never* happens on Windows, even if I'm working on a network share.
When it works as expected, I can scroll down to any part of the document, click
save, and then press Ctrl+Shift+M. It will *instantly* switch to Read Only mode
and keep the same spot I'm looking at. I won't lose my spot and it doesn't feel
like the document is being "reloaded". I can do this as many times as I want.
Over SMB or NFS, when it doesn't work as expected, it will act like it's
"reloading" the document, and reset me back to the first page of the document.
The problem persists with "Factory Defaults" and a fresh UserProfile.
Here is a Reddit post for reference:
https://www.reddit.com/r/libreoffice/comments/1mu0b51/why_does_writer_do_this_over_smb_or_nfs/
Some comments have ideas what might be causing this.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a document over an SMB or NFS network share.
2. Scroll down many pages.
3. Save.
4. Switch to Read Only mode or press Ctrl+Shift+M
Actual Results:
The document seems to "reload" and I am brought back to the first page.
Expected Results:
The document doesn't reload and I keep the same exact spot I'm currently
looking at.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: Yes
Additional Info:
Never happens with *Windows*, even over a network share.
Never happens on Linux if the document is on a *local* or *USB* drive.
It only happens over a network share. It doesn't matter that my user has full
ownership and permissions of the share, folder, and file.
If I don't save during the current session, then switching to Read Only mode,
as many times as I want, will keep my place exactly where I am looking, without
"reloading". It only happens if I have ever saved, even once, during the
session.
