Bug ID: 168825
Summary: Add support for dynamically linked .odt files in
LibreOffice Draw that update automatically when the
source document changes
Product: LibreOffice
Version: unspecified
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: Draw
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
In LibreOffice Draw, it is currently not possible to link a .odt (Writer)
document so that the content updates automatically when the Writer file
changes.
Steps to Reproduce:
OLE linking works but is limited, buggy, and blocks layering.
Inserting PDFs as linked images only shows the first page and hides background
objects.
Actual Results:
OLE linking works but is limited, buggy, and blocks layering.
Inserting PDFs as linked images only shows the first page and hides background
objects.
Expected Results:
Add support for a dynamic link to .odt documents in Draw (similar to linked
images).
The linked Writer content should refresh automatically when the .odt changes.
The linked content should remain transparent to preserve background/master page
visibility.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
Use case:
Users who build multi-page presentations, posters, or diagrams in Draw that
include text documents which evolve independently.
Makes Draw a true layout tool, similar to Publisher or InDesign with linked
text frames.
